I'm no expert, but I do like to watch a good movie of an evening and I like to do it without breaking the bank. I looked at different reviews for different TVs for quite a while before replacing my well-loved, but now long-in-the tooth Hitachi 42' plasma, bought about 6 years ago. I took delivery of our new Samsung UE46D5520 and although it has only been a few days since I ripped the box open and set it up, all I can say is that I am blown away by the quality of build, the sheer stunning look of the thing and the fabulous colour, contrast and vibrance of the display.

I work at a Mac all day and I have the largest brightest Mac LCD monitor you can get, so although I don't know much about TVs, I guess I think I know what a good picture should look like, and the Samsung does not disappoint. The Samsung is just beautiful. I know that there are bigger TVs (a lot bigger) but for my room the ultra thin ultra flat TV is truly a cinema experience... better even if I'm being honset. And so thin. At 2.7cm... yes that's right... 27mm, it almost looks as if it is too thin to support its own weight. Not that it is heavy, it is incredibly lightweight and I can easily see this being mounted on the wall with just about any suitable bracket. In fact I hope I am not going out on too much of a limb, when I say that this TV is almost a science fiction experience in itself, and that's before you have even turned it on, with the ultra black screen, almost darker than the Stanley Kubrick's 2001 monolith. I have pared it with a mid priced Sony Blu-ray and surround system and so for more or less £1000 in total I have what I think is a brilliant set up. My advice is, forget 3D, that technology is not really market ready yet, save the 3D experience for the cinema where it is almost nearly there, it'll give you headaches anyway, go instead for this, bargain of the century and you will never look back.

i always do way too much research before buying anything technology related, and this TV is no exception. Having spent 3 hours trying every 3D configuration there is (LG cinema vision, panasonic, samsung and sony shutter glasses) 3D really is not ready for prime time yet, there are too many compromises and expense in all but the LG case. as soon as i realised that 3d really wasnt something i needed, i then began to hunt out the best 40 or 42" set i could. Its remarkable how much cheaper non 3D sets are at the moment. The other big requirement was connectivity, and this set really doesnt let down in this area.

So whats good, the picture is amazing, seriously amazing, watching Coast on BBC HD demonstrates just how good the upscaling is on this set, its easily comparable with any native 1080p Blu Ray disc and utterly jaw dropping, as impressive is the performance with SD content (Normal non hd-tv) lets face it, a lot of viewing will be done using this resolution and again, the processing is outstanding, no smearing or pixelation, even with lots of action going on. Next up connectivity, this set offers most of the samsung smart tv features, it DOES NOT support timeshift - pause and replay live tv OR and sort of recording television, definitely a nice to have but not a deal breaker. It does an excellent job of playing content from USB hard drive (although you may need a long usb cable or somewhere to prop your drive due to the location of the connection) playing back videos from the drive is excellent, although DivX support is limited, mkv files play great bizarrely it plays everything my PS3 wont play, so im quite happy.

the biggest moment of surprise (having watched iplayer on a wii and ps3 for the last couple of years) is the iplayer app, at first look it seems a bit low res (the interface) but playback, as long as your internet connection can take it, is stunning, im not sure how they do it, but it seems flash has been taken out of the equation, my kids wanted to watch chuggington and when i queue it up and watched i stood there speechless for a while, outstanding quality.

all in all im very happy with the set, one word of warning, Edge lit LED tv screens are renowned for clouding (smudged patches on very bright scenes) this is fact of life on an LED set at the moment, my set is no different on bright white scenes there is a very slight smudged darker patch on the screen but you have to look hard to see it. It doesnt bother me at all and in some cases will settle with use. if this sort of thing bothers you then maybe look or something other than LED. Other than that i am a very happy customer i make this essential purchase if it fits your requirements (e.g. smart TV but no 3D)

I spent a year or more researching flat screen TV's, that includes visiting stores to check out the latest releases & friends who had just purchased as well as endless online articles & reviews.
I wanted to get the best my budget would allow.
I finally decided on LED technology as not only was the picture bright and clear, it also used hardly any power.

Out of all the LED TV's Samsung seemed to be streets ahead of the competition.
I finally decided on the UE37C6530 series 6, it had everything, in-depth picture tweaking, internet access (albeit via Samsung Apps) and the ability to link wirelessly with other equipment. I bided my time waiting for the price to drop knowing that the new series 6D was just around the corner.

Then to my amazement Samsung released this years series 5D, it had all the features of the previous series 6 and then some. On checking with Samsung the panel and supporting technology actually surpassed the series 6. It was also cheaper, so with no hesitation I purchased this model.

Setting up the TV is a breeze. The build quality of the set and stand is superb and went together in seconds!

Picture:
The initial picture was excellent but still slightly too vivid for my living room.
The picture menu settings are easy to access & follow and after an hour or so fine tuning I can honestly say I have the best picture I have ever seen on a TV.
The detail and clarity is phenomenal. I only have it connected via RF so I get the normal SDTV and 4 HD channels. The up-scaling technology used on the standard SD channels is nothing short of a miracle. There are virtually no artifacts whatsoever, even on the poorest reception.
The HD channels as expected are breath taking.
The difference between SD & HD on this model is very slight, I just don't know how Samsung have done it.
There is no judder and virtually no motion blur (I say virtually because on one of the poorest channels I did notice just a tinge of blur on high speed action...but I can safely say that was the broadcast quality and not the TV - on everything else it's SO smooth)
Clearly Samsungs new 'CMR' technology works!
The depth of field in the picture has to be seen to be believed, you really do feel like you're there.
The colour perfomance is truly remarkable and the depth of the black unbeatable.
The picture is undoubtedly the best I have seen on any 37inch LED screen.

Sound:
This is where you see the most complaints about Samsung the `tinny' sound. What people confuse with `tinny' is actually just a sound system that has been tuned far too bright.
The top end causes sibilance so `s' type sounds can be quite piercing.
Fortunately Samsung include a basic graphic EQ section within the sound menu. I quickly raised the bottom end and took the top two bands right down and achieved an excellent near studio quality sound. Even with the volume right up the speakers stood their ground, no distortion or loss of depth in a TV barely 3cm deep Samsung have clearly worked some serious magic here!
The `surround sound' feature is also excellent adding even more depth especially to movies.

External:
I hooked up a cheap DVD player and the results where outstanding. I then tried various formats via USB, not one hiccup and the quality simply blew me away.
I've yet to purchase a Bluray player but I've no doubt that the results will be excellent.
You can also have completely separate picture settings for each EXT input and the TV will remember them...awesome!

Internet:
I have only connected via the wired LAN so far (I was hesitant to purchase the separate Wifi dongle until I had judged internet content) but I was able to access various apps, also Google, Facebook, ect; BBCiplayer was incredible, the quality was excellent.
This model doesn't feature the full blown web browser as I first thought, that feature is currently only available on series 6 up but it may be available via a later update, including a 4OD app and other promised apps (but i'm not going to hold my breath!)
Some of the features are gimmicky others very useful but all free from glitches.
As this TV has the ability to access various PC's and other wireless devices in the home I will be purchasing the Wifi dongle.

Cons:
There are only two things that niggled me, the first is that when changing channel it takes 3 seconds to load. This is certainly no slower than many other TV's on the market but I feel it's worth a mention. Also for some reason the `Teletext' doesn't always work (I tested this on 2 sets) I have no idea why and as it's not a feature I use it doesn't bother me.

Finally:
With the correct `ECO' settings which are especially useful at night in a darkened room the TV uses a mere 34 watts, on full blast with all settings on max it uses just 90 watts, so it's kind to... Read more

After a good few weeks research I narrowed my tv search down to this one and the very similar spec TX-L42E30B. It basically comes down to personal choice between LED/LCD and PLASMA. I was still undecided when comparing the two models side by side in my local Panasonic dealer. I was tempted by the LED/LCD as it was the cheaper of the two models but after a bit of haggling the dealer dropped the price of the Plasma to match the LCD/LED just to add to my dilemma. Sorry Amazon but with the price dropped the tv was cheaper at the dealers with a five year guarantee and free same day delivery. Anyway back to the tv it is simply stunning both standard def and high def images are the best images I have seen on a tv, it looks much better at home than in the shop. The picture was near perfect straight out of the box but can be improved/tweeked to suit your preference in the menus. I was a little dissapointed in the sound quality however five minutes in the sound menu had it sorted by adjusting the graphic equalizer to get a decent output for a flat screen tv. One word of warning make sure you purchase the G30 model not the S30 as the S30 is the older model with last years plasma panel not the new NEO Plasma. It also has a thick screen surround which makes it look a bit old fashioned. So you pays your money and makes your choice both sets are great and I doubt you will be dissapointed in either. I've had the Panasonic TX-P42G30 for one week. This tv was purchased to replace a 28" CRT with built-in freeview tuner. The picture quality of the Panasonic is outstanding. In shops, like Comet and Currys, it's difficult to see how the picture from this set is as good as the punchier images from the LCD tvs. The panasonic looks bland by comparison. However, if you examine the LCD screens carefully you can see that the white parts of the image regularly 'burn out' losing detail in the process. When you get the Panasonic home, you realise that it retains lots of detail in the whites and blacks giving a picture with a much wider latitude (somethings photographers constantly strive for) giving a much better range of tones with a realistic look. Freeview HD is handled extremely well with superb colours and smooth gradients. Sound is better than expected for a flatscreen tv but external speakers would improve it greatly. Internet connection via the tv is a little limited (no Google for instance) but you can received BBC iPlayer HD, You Tube and Facebook etc. One excellent improvement is the ability to search for a particular programme in the programme guide so if you miss a programme it's easy to locate a repeat in the coming week. One other good feature is the ability to record to a USB hard drive. I bought a 2 TB HDD which can store a lot of HD films, however, be warned that the tv has to be switched on during the recording (no good for recording when out for the night or when you're on holiday!). The tv also features a SD card slot so I can watch home movies from my HD camcorder with ease.

On the downside I would say that this tv has 2 issues, one temporary, one permanent. Initially, there were sound problems on freeview HD. After 10 mins or so of viewing, the sound would suddenly double in volume and the quiet parts of programmes would become very noisy. This issue has been resolved by Panasonic by issuing a downloadable software update (which will also be broadcast on 17 May). The second issue is buzzing. During contrasty scenes, a fairly loud buzzing noise is created which is pretty irritating. If this didn't exist the tv would be perfect but the buzzing is just a little too loud (hence 4 stars). You can't really hear it if the sound is turned up but sometimes loud audio is not always desirable. In its defence, LCD projectors also make a noise (even my old CRT tv whistled), as do PCs and laptops.

Overall, this is a superb tv as long as you can ignore the buzzing.

This is a great TV. True to life tones unlike the over saturated LCD/LED tvs from other manufacturers. Even with SD transmissions the quality is upscaled effortlessly. An excellent array of features too, Viera cast is really handy for iPlayer and the tv also see's networked hard drives to easily play your saved movies.

I have no desire for 3D, it is awful to watch sports in 3D and also expensive to provide £100 each pair of glasses if you are to have guests round. So this being the best 2D TV around has the exact same quality as the 3D GT30 range which is also superb.

In response to previous reviews, the TV does have a slight buzz when it's cold but you have to be about a foot away from it to notice, then it goes after a few minutes.

I looked into which tv to buy for over a year, almost buying an LED samsung which are great TVs but are not true to showing tonal graduation, anything dark simply appears black. Whereas the Panasonic shows the detail and tonal variations perfectly.

I'm a very fussy customer who is very picky about what I buy. I use high end Hi-fi and expect my TV to match.
This TV does.

a very good buy, loud enough for anyone bar the anti social, looks good, good quality sound though no dts, sub woofer could have a little more punch but maybe my old 1970s BnO system spoilt me. PS3 computer etc all go through this system and usb port very handy , its also rare to get tower stands for rear speakers esp at this price. All in all a good mid range system at low end price

I could not find a customer review for this sound system anywhere! I took a gamble. It paid off! I set this up in a room that is about 15ftx15ft and it rocks, I play music, watch TV and films and play my xbox 360 through these speakers and there are perfect settings for all. It was a little bit of a pain to get the screws into the stands, but be patient and they will go in.

The system also looks beautiful and intergrates with my samsung tv very nicely. I am scared to think how loud it can go, when I want it really loud I turn it up to 30... but it goes up to 50 :

Great TV.
Amazing colour and depth of field, it actualy looks like 3D without things jumping out the screen at you.
The picture clarity is fantastic.
Standard TV is also good but HD is great. 3D is a novel and works, but you are limited to the DVD's available.
I spent months reviewing TV's and visting shops, and I am realy critical when it comes to picture quality.
The Samsung range were always up there AT THE TOP. Looked at Pan and Sony but nothing was quite as good.
I liked the screen glass going right to the edge with only a very small black edge.
This 37inch was actually smaller than my Sony 32inch LCD.
I therefore persuaded my wife to go up to the 40inch of this model and sent back the 37inch.
This would have got 5 stars if the sound had been better. Actaully on my 40inch it does sound better

This is my first HD TV, replacing a 1999, 28 inch widescreen CRT. It took me almost a year of research to decide on the TV that I wanted to buy. First there was a choice between LED and Plazma. Finally I went for LED as they seems to consume less power, but more importantly they are far better for daylight programmes, such as sports. LED TVs also have caught up with Plazmas, in displaying dark pictures.

So I started looking for a nice LED TV and finally decided on Samsung U55D6530. The reason for my choice were; I wanted a smart TV with access to online contents. I also wanted a 3D TV. Although I wasn't quite sure which frequency to go for (100HZ, 200Hz or 400Hz), I finally decided on 400Hz. Fast moving pictures such as football matches looks much better on higher frequency TV. Just a quick note if you are confused with 400Hz. The normal television telecast is only 50Hz, then how can a TV operate on 400Hz. Because of the slowness of the old CRT TVs, the TV stations used to broadcast interlaced signals where each frame were divided into old and even line frames i.e. 100 of half frames per seconds = 50 Hz. Modern TVs can support Progressive frames, which are created by inserting the missing old or even lines in interlaced frames through estimation. Hence a 50 Hz Interlaced signal are converted into a 100Hz progressive signal. Latest LED TVs such as Samsung U55D6530, can take this further, by inserting more frames in between the two transmitted frames, through estimation routines. This is how you can get 200Hz LED or 400Hz LED.

The Verdict
------------
When the TV first arrived, it looked quite big compared to the 28 inch CRT we had. But we all got used to it within a day or two. So, anyone who is not sure of which TV size to go for, my advice is to go for the biggest possible that you can afford. At the beginning, the TV did not look very clear. But then a friend of mine told me that LED TV will look better within a week as the LED TV's pixel takes some time to fully glow. Believe me the viewing experience improved every day for almost the entire week.

We tried the HD channels, and they were awesome on the tele - Almost unbelievable. I watched some cricket matches on SKY Sport HD and clarity was breathtaking. I had previously watched cricket matches in many other HD teles, but this TV is far much clearer than any other TVs I have ever seen.

I also tried the normal channels and they look so much better. I also bought a Samsung 3D blue ray player with this TV. We watched the MegaMind 3D movie and the 3D experience was amazing. I must say that if you want to watch more of 3D contents, then buy as big as you can, as the TV looks smaller on 3D broadcast. You can switch a 3D movie to 2D, if you don't have enough glasses or whatever.

The TV is smart TV with built in WIFI. Within minutes, I was able to hooked the TV to my wireless router. Once connected to the internet, the TV automatically downloaded the latest firmware and upgrade itself. I tried YouTube, Skype and LoveFilm. The Skype experience was very nice, but as there was no microphone or camera, we could only watch the pictures with no sound and on the other side my son could not see or hear anything. I believe, you can buy a Camera+Microphone for Samsung TV. Not all camera will work. Only the once that do not need any additional driver will work, i.e. the ones approved by Samsung. These Camera+Microphone are quite expensive; around 100 bucks. There is also a keyboard/remote that can be bought for around 30 bucks. That helps using the web browser, YouTube etc. There are many apps that you can download, but I havn't tried it as yet.

The TV supports USB drive. Once I connected my USB drive with lots of movies in various format to the TV, I was able to play all of them. I tried DVDRip in MPEG4/MKV, Blue-ray Rip in MKV and all of them played without any issue. You can use the TV remote to browse the files and folders on your hard drive. The TV remote can also be used to pause, fast forward, rewind, time search, stop etc. The TV is an DNLA device. i.e. as soon as you start a Windows 7 laptop/pc with windows home group setup on the same wireless network, you will see your laptop on your TV as a source. Once you select your laptop, you can stream videos, music, photos etc. from your laptop to your TV.

Plenty of ports: 4 HMDI, 2 USB, 1 VGA, 1 EXT (to connect SCART devices) and many others.

Any Cons: Simply None.

This is my first review on the Amazon and this TV is so good that I have no choice but to share my experience with all of you. I have been a proud owner of this TV for about a month and I have been absolute fallen in love with this big beast. You can't go wrong with it. Last night, we watched some blue-rays movies and my son said "If I get one penny for each of the pixel on the screen that I am seeing, I will be a millionaire".
